I was really eager to write this article. I am very passionate about our planet and fighting climate change that is affecting the lives of billions; even if some of you like to pretend it’s not happening. Let’s face it once and for all, environmentalism without veganism just doesn’t exist.
A few weeks ago I gave you the challenge to watch Cowspiracy and since this documentary changed many lives, mine as well, I really wanted everyone to watch it. At the end of the day I am a realist and I know that there are always going to be people who will be too lazy to actually watch it, so I wanted to point out a few of the facts that are presented on the website of the movie (you can find all the links to the facts I will present here).
Here are just a few things that are confirmed to be caused by animal agriculture and are destroying our mother Earth, that has been taking care of us for a few billion years.
- Animal agriculture is responsible for 18 percent of greenhouse gas emissions, more than the combined exhaust from all transportation.
- Livestock and their byproducts account for at least 32,000 million tons of carbon dioxide (CO2) per year or 51% of all worldwide greenhouse gas emissions.
- Livestock is responsible for 65% of all human-related emissions of nitrous oxide – a greenhouse gas with 296 times the global warming potential of carbon dioxide, and which stays in the atmosphere for 150 years.
- Agriculture is responsible for 80-90% of US water consumption.
Are you just as shocked as I am at the fact that we are literally eating our way to death? And forget about the health issue and animal slaughter for a second, think about our planet that is floating in space. We were given this gorgeous, stunning planet to live on and we evolved on her through millions of years – only to have her die because we cannot comprehend that we are not meant to be eating animals.
We are so selfish that we would rather destroy a whole planet than to start eating plant-based, which is not only the only solution to stop climate change, but it is also our natural given diet and we are not harming anyone in the process. I truly do not understand what is so appealing about eating rotten bodies of dead animals. Why not just eat healthy plants and love each other, exactly what veganism is all about?
If you are interested in becoming a vegan, here is one of the many articles I wrote about veganism. All the environmentalists, you better read this one and get on board with eating plants.
What are your thoughts on this whole problem, environmentalists? I would absolutely love to hear your opinion and how do you think we can share this amazing documentary with people. Do you think all environmentalists should be vegan?
