I imagine, for most of you, living a completely vegan lifestyle seems like a lot of work. I completely understand why you would think that, but I can assure you that you are wrong.
Living vegan means living consciously.
It means being aware of your actions and the consequences they will have.
It means being aware of what you support with the choices that you make.
From my experience, living vegan is easy. It is a part of me. I don’t feel like I have a huge cross on my back that I need to carry in order to save the animals, like a sacrifice of some sorts. It never feels like a burden.
I consciously make choices that are now unconsciously a part of me.
I don’t think anymore. I just am.
Your first few weeks will probably be a bit harder than the old lifestyle you practised for years. You will have to learn a lot of things and experience a lot of heartbreak. It’s usually like that. It might be different for you. I don’t know.
Yes, it will be harder.
But it doesn’t stay like that forever.
I have been living vegan since 4th of March, 2015. Add eleven months more if you count all the months I spent learning about veganism, and all the months I was vegetarian.
It gets hard.
It’s hard when you see little piglets lying in a pool of blood, next to their dead mother. How can it not be hard? I am human. I have a heart that feels. I have a brain that knows what is morally wrong.
Maybe you will be better at handling those things.
Matter of fact, you don’t even have to like the animals.
You really don’t.
There are many people living vegan that do not like the animals.
But they don’t harm them.
They are aware.
You don’t have to speak up for apes to get the same rights as humans, or to witness the noises coming from a slaughterhouse. You don’t even have to tell anyone that going to the ZOO is wrong on so many levels.
You can just ignore all of that and continue with your life. Let others do that if it speaks to them.
You can stay the same as you are, you just start living consciously. You start living vegan.
