My favourite way to relax is to make a big cup of cappuccino in my Barça cup and watch a football match. 

Okay, maybe it’s not the most relaxing thing as I am cursing and shouting for 90+ minutes straight, but it makes me happy and it takes my mind off the things that are making me anxious and upset.

For such a long time I was convinced that a self-care routine consists of dancing in your underwear and saying how much you love your thighs (even though you really know you should lose a few kilos for health reasons, you know) while drinking herbal tea.

I mean, I get it, but still… to each their own so why not encourage people to do what they like and not criticise if someone finds playing video games relaxing?

So that’s why I want to encourage you to create a self-care routine that works for you. A routine that will make your heart sing and will lift you up when you want to give up and just sleep forever.

  • What do you actually love to do when you have free time?
  • What is that one thing that relaxes you but everyone finds weird?
  • If you could spend one Sunday doing one thing that brings you peace, what would it be?

Ask yourself these questions and find the answers that are right for you.

Sure, I do recommend meditation and a workout routine as part of your self-care routine, but then add things that are just fun for you – something that no one else finds interesting and calming but you.

If you do want to dance and say affirmations, okay do that. But if you want to do something less woo-woo and more fuck-yeah, then please, go ahead, entertain yourself.

There are already so many things that you do because you are told you should do them, from eating foods that are bad for us but people say you should feast on them to wearing clothes that you don’t like but are, I guess, modern and cool.

When we create a routine that we adore and love, we will always find time to relax. We will feel pulled to do things that make our heart dance and sing, and no matter how many things we have on our to-do list, we will manage to squeeze a little me-time in the schedule.
