As a person who is standing against the current normal behaviour of people around the world, you are bound to experience setbacks and hate.

Not only will you experience personal lows but also pressure from others, and sadly, most vegans quit because they are unable to face the issues. I would hate to have that happen to you.

That’s why I want to share with you 4 things that will help you move forward when things get so hard that you start to think about quitting – I also wrote a post about what to ask yourself if this happens here so please do read it.

It’s important to have someone who understands you and wants to share with you what they’ve learnt, and I hope to be that person for you. After all, we are all in this together and if one person wins we all win. All animal kingdom wins.

Here is the vegan 101 with 4 things to remember when things get tough:

  • This too shall pass.

Every time you thought things were hard they eventually passed, and this time is no different. Especially, when you just changed your lifestyle and you are experiencing drastic changes in your body, mind and the environment. It’s supposed to rain before you see a rainbow. Just like every problem that arises in your life and then solves itself somehow, this too will solve itself. It will get better.

  • You are not the only one experiencing this.

Every vegan experienced something similar to you at one point – some still do – but they were able to move forward. No lifestyle will ever be perfect and veganism is no different. The lesson is in moving forward, learning how to do and be better, and never giving up. We all felt misunderstood, miserable and alone on this journey, but what helped me personally, was knowing that I wasn’t the only one who experienced these setbacks.

  • Every social change was once subjected to hate and resentment.

When you resist the unjust laws you are bound to be the centre of attention – and usually not the good one. If you find yourself being criticized or bullied, here are my two cents on the issue. You need to have thick skin to not let people break you, but also thin enough to know that this is not a personal attack, but just a natural reaction from people whose habits and beliefs are being threatened.

  • Your foundation will keep you moving forward.

When you know why going vegan means a lot to you, you will know why it’s worth moving forward even when things get tough. Our why, the foundation of every change, is going to be a reason why we stay vegan forever and never allow ugly circumstances to push us away from our morals.

What do you think about these tips? Please let me know in the comment section if you find them helpful and useful.

Every change is hard but not all changes are as grand as this one. Learning how to handle tough times when you are starting to create a vegan lifestyle should be basic vegan 101. We all go through it so we should all be aware of how to handle it, don’t you agree?

I am here to support you and tell you that it’s okay to fall before you are able to walk straight. That’s the only way to make progress; by trying and trying until we learn how to master it. And when we think we’ve mastered it, we will encounter yet another wall.

This is life. Face the nasty or let it run you over. Your choice. I know it is not the nicest thing to hear, but I have to tell it like it is.

Can I hope to you see over on my Instagram and Twitter? I post daily and only things I believe you will find valuable and helpful.
