Not everyone cares about their fellow animals.
Perhaps you are one of those people. Maybe you lack empathy, your beliefs and values are different, or you just don’t care. People are shaped differently.
But you are curious. You’ve been hearing about veganism for the longest time and you want to know what the fuss is about. Why is everyone talking about it?
Not for ethics but for health and wellness. You just want to feel good. You want to improve your health.
That is fine. You are free to do (almost) anything you wish.
And since I will take whatever I can get when it comes to animal liberation, I want to encourage you to try plant-based. The diet part of the vegan lifestyle.
All you have to do is focus on eating a variety of plants and get all the nutrients your body requires. While veganism is a lifestyle, a plant-based diet is just that… a diet.Â
I recommend you start with getting the basic knowledge of it through books. Of course, the best source is the studies but there is nothing wrong with reading literature if you trust the author.
Here is a list of books if you want to try plant-based diets but don’t know where to start:
- How Not to Die: Discover the Foods Scientifically Proven to Prevent and Reverse Disease
- Proteinaholic: How Our Obsession with Meat Is Killing Us and What We Can Do About It.
- Fiber Fueled: The Plant-Based Gut Health Program for Losing Weight, Restoring Your Health, and Optimizing Your Microbiome.
- Color Me Vegan: Maximize Your Nutrient Intake and Optimize Your Health by Eating Antioxidant-Rich, Fiber-Packed, Color-Intense Meals That Taste Great
Although documentaries, podcasts and online videos can be great, I still prefer to sit under a tree with a highlighter in my hands and studying the book I am reading.
There is something so heartwarming in seeing people completely lost in words. Don’t you love the sight of that?
All I care about is making this world a more compassionate, greener place. If someone like you starts eating just 50% more plants, we are moving in the right direction.
What I want you to remember is that you do need to learn the basics. How many calories do you need? Where can you get all the nutrients? Which supplements do you need to buy?
All of these questions can be answered by just reading more. I really think you will love all of these books if you decide to give them a chance.
As long as you are doing something, I’m sure a lot of us will appreciate it.
When I started to eat more plants, I was obsessed with learning. I literally spent months just diving from one book to another, from one website to another.
It was very exciting. I felt like I was doing something good for others and wasn’t just observing progress pass me by.
I hope you find it to be exciting too. Your actions matter more than you think they do.
You got this.
