One of the most important tips I can give to new vegans is to put yourself first. I wrote about this topic on so many occasions in the past.
It kind of feels like it goes against what we are trying to do, doesn’t it? That’s because we think self-care is selfish. That if we are our own priority, we don’t really care about helping others.
It is such a bizarre thing because it is pretty logical when you think about it. If we are not feeling good, we cannot help anyone else. Everyone should know that.
So I don’t feel bad when I ask you to take care of yourself before you go out and take care of other individuals. I know that the reason I am capable of doing the work I do is because I always make sure I am healthy enough to be able to do so.
Today we are going to create a self-care routine that works for you.Â
I can share what works for me and what makes me feel good, but you are not me and sometimes it’s good to listen to ourselves first.
Get a piece of paper and answer the next few questions by writing the answers down – they will help you create a beautiful self-care routine full of self-love:
- What activities bring me energy?Â
- What activities relax me?
- When do I feel the happiest?Â
- When do I feel the healthiest?
Okay.Â
The answers you gave contain ideas that you can incorporate into your daily life. But don’t get reckless and too ambitious.Â
Pick up to three things that you wrote – mine would be meditation, working out and reading – and include them in your daily schedule.Â
Write them down and create a little checklist that will keep you motivated as you go through your day. Make sure you do at least one thing that makes you feel good throughout your day.Â
Let’s just start with one, no rush.Â
I hate telling people to just cut down on the things that bring negativity, like social media and binging on chips. For now, just add up to three activities that bring you pleasure and see what happens.
I find that starting with just one thing from the list gets me going in the right direction, and eventually, I end up having a full-blown self-care routine that I adore – it’s all about self-love, people.
The best part? All the things that made me feel bad and lazy, just don’t fit into my schedule anymore!Â
So just do it. Start. Take care of yourself first. You deserve it.
